Main Things That Accelerate Ageing of the Skin
The face and hands are always exposed, which is one of the main reasons they are the first parts of our body to show signs of aging. Whether facing cold, wind and rain in winter or the heat of the sun in summer, all types of weather can affect the skin. And it's not the weather; Pollution and car exhaust can also play a role in aging our skin.
Many things speed up the aging process of the skin:
Stress – Signs of stress can show up in your skin, hair and nails.
Lack of sleep – those who don't sleep well may have more fine lines, uneven skin tone and sagging skin.
Sun Damage – The sun handles most of the visible signs of skin aging. UVA rays emitted by the sun can cause pigmentation, reduced skin elasticity due to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, and the quality of skin texture.
Smoking : exposure to smoke, even second-hand smoke, can damage elastin fibers, causing sagging skin, age spots, and lines and wrinkles around the mouth.
Pollution and environment : can cause fine lines and dark circles under the eyes. Dehydrated skin can leave skin dry, rough and itchy, and city dust and dirt can clog pores, cause blemishes and make skin look lifeless and dull.
One of the main things we notice as a result of normal aging is a loss of volume. As we age, our facial fat is generally lost, causing the soft tissues to thin. collagen; dense fibers for strength and elastin; the elastic fibers for suppleness become less firm and elastic with age, so the soft tissue in the face will sag. The result is a thinner face and more prominent facial bones.
Cheeks –:there is less collagen and elastin production, meaning aging skin is vulnerable to the effects of gravity and can sag, resulting in jowls and bags under the eyes.
Mouth and laugh lines deepen and fine lines that surround the lips, known as smoker's lines, begin to appear and we lose definition, leading to lipstick bleeding.
Eyes – Upper and lower eyes begin to sag, forming dark circles and tear ducts.
Facial veins – blood vessels in aging thin skin are more likely to break, bruise or become dilated, causing varicose veins.
Age spots - occur when pigment cells in the skin in certain areas become enlarged and clump together, resulting in sun spots, freckles or liver spots.
Forehead - gets wrinkles and furrows from repetitive facial movements that build up over time.
Skin - Omit wrinkling of the face can occur as a result of thinning aging skin. Reduced skin cell turnover will result in thinner, crepes skin. More mature skin also has fewer sweat and oil glands, which is why it is prone to dryness.
